Not too long after Jacob announced that it was closing its doors, Reitmans (Canada) Ltd. shared on Tuesday that it will be axing some of its locations too. Smart Set, a major Canadian women’s clothier, will see 107 of its stores shuttered over the next 12 to 18 months. Only 76 of them will be converted to other banners of the company.
Smart Set had tried to rebrand themselves into an older “career woman” audience, but their strategy did not take off as planned. As we reported last month, clothing chains are now struggling in a more foreign dominated market rivalling stores H&M, Zara, and Forever 21.
No major liquidation sales have been announced as of yet.
